TACOMA, Washington – Puget Sound is in third place in the race for the 2015-16 Northwest Conference McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports Trophy at the conclusion of the fall season. The McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports Trophy “recognizes athletic excellence among Northwest Conference institutions across all fields of competition.”
Puget Sound earned 80 points during the fall, led by the women’s soccer team, who received 18 points after winning their 14th-consecutive NWC title and advancing to the NCAA Tournament second round, and the men’s cross country team, who tallied 16 points for taking second place in the conference.
The men’s soccer team earned 14 points after finishing third in the Northwest Conference. Football also earned 14 points after finishing with the most Northwest Conference wins in program history and a 6-3 overall record. The women’s cross country team earned 12 points after finishing fourth at the NWC Championships, while the Logger volleyball team received six points after finishing seventh.
Whitworth is currently in first place for the trophy, winning titles in women’s cross country, men’s soccer, and volleyball during the fall. The Pirates have 89 points overall, while Willamette sits in second place with 81 points.
The Loggers finished in second place after the 2014-15 season, their best finish since 2008-09. Whitworth has won the trophy each of the last eight years.
