Claire Ely
Women's Basketball
Walnut Creek, Calif. (Northgate HS)

NWC Player of the Year and Josten’s Award finalist Claire Ely has another award to add to her long list. Ely, a 2010 graduate from Walnut Creek, Calif., was named the NWC Woman of the Year last week and will be nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year honor that is announced in October. Ely’ success was not just limited to the court, where she averaged 19.9 ppg, 4.7 apg and 2.6 spg, but extended to the classroom and community. “It’s remarkable to even be considered for this honor,” said Ely. “The coaches taught me that its not just about excelling in basketball, but about excelling in the classroom and becoming a better woman in all aspects of life. That what this award embodies and what I’ve strived to be.”
