Rockey Named ABCA All-Region

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - For the first time since joining NCAA Division III, the Puget Sound Loggers have earned a First Team All-West Region selection on the baseball field as junior Mark Rockey (Mountlake Terrace, Wash./New Mexico) earned honors, as announced by the ABCA on Tuesday.

Rockey earned first team honors after batting .444 in 39 games played in 2009. The transfer from University of New Mexico hit a school-record 17 doubles in 2009, also adding 13 home runs and 49 RBIs in 133 at-bats. Rockey also posted a .991 fielding percentage at first base and catcher, as well as throwing out 13 runners attempting to steal.

He was one of just three players from the Northwest Conference to earn first team honors as Bo Thunell and Matt Wyckoff of George Fox were also honored by the coaches for their strong play.

Pomona-Pitzer first baseman Drew Hedman was named West Region Player of the Year after hitting .500 in 176 at bats with 11 doubles, three triples, 23 home runs and 79 RBIs in his senior season. Brett Hinson of Mississippi College was named West Region Pitcher of the Year after posting a record of 10-2 overall with a 3.63 ERA.

After transferring to Puget Sound before his junior season, Mark made an immediate impact on the diamond, becoming the first Loggers since joining NCAA Division III to be named an All-American.
