TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound baseball team battled No. 6 Linfield through 15 innnings, but the Wildcats plated the game-winning run with two outs in the top of the final inning to claim an 8-7 win on Saturday afternoon.
The second game of Saturday's doubleheader has been postponed for Sunday, March 1. Sunday is now scheduled for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
The Loggers got two more runs in the seventh thanks to Alarcio's two-run double, but the Wildcats quickly erased Puget Sound's 6-3 lead. Linfield posted two runs in the eighth, and Jo Carroll's solo home run in the top of the ninth sent the game into extra innings.
The Wildcats were poised to end the game in the 13th inning when they claimed a 7-6 edge, but the Loggers responded with a run of their own in the home half of the stanza. Layne Croney (3-for-7, R, 2B) smacked a double to left field and advanced to third on Troy Kakugawa's (3-for-6, 2B) single. Bobby Hosmer (0-for-0-, RBI) lifted a deep fly to left field, allowing Croney to tag up and score the game-tying run.
In the top of the 15th, Jake Gellos hit a two-out single and moved into scoring position on a balf. Flinn McMichael's single allowed Gellos to score what stood to be the game-winning run.
