TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound baseball team lost a non-conference game at crosstown rival Pacific Lutheran on Wednesday afternoon, 9-3.
The Loggers (10-8) got on the board in the sixth inning after Chris Zerio (1-for-3, 2B, R) led off with a double to right field. Nick Funyak (1-for-4) singled and Alex Sierra (2-for-3, RBI, SB) walked to load the bases for Ben Jones (1-for-4). The Puget Sound first-baseman grounded into a double play that allowed Zerio to score.
Puget Sound got two more runs in the eighth inning after Sierra's RBI single allowed Cal Muramaru (1-for-2, R) to score, and a sac fly by Jordan Hirae (0-for-0, RBI) later in the inning allowed Logan Day (0-for-0, R) to tag up and score.
Logger starting pitcher David Follett got touched for seven earned runs through 2.1 innings, but the Puget Sound bullpen was stern the rest of the way. Joshua Zavisubin, Cole Mauter, Zak Holcomb, and Alex Wojtysiak combined to yield just two earned runs through 5.2 inings.
The Loggers return to action with a doubleheader at Whitworth on Saturday, March 21, beginning at 12 p.m.
