CLAREMONT, California – Merle Rowan-Kennedy and the Logger pitching staff two-hit Claremont-M-S in the second game of the Puget Sound baseball team's doubleheader split at the Stags on Saturday afternoon.
Puget Sound 2, CMS 6
The Loggers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth after Nolan Wiler led off with a walk and promptly stole second base. Wiler tagged up and took third on a fly out by Makoa Mau, and Layne Croney followed with an RBI single through the right side.
The one-run lead was short-lived, however, as CMS quickly answered with six runs – including a two-run home run by Evan Opperman.
Puget Sound got one more run in the eighth inning after James Dejesus led off with a double, and Hughes delivered an RBI single back up the middle.
Both Hughes and Hirae finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate.
Puget Sound 3, CMS 1
The Logger (5-7) pitching staff allowed just two hits and Ian Hughes drove in two runs as Puget Sound beat CMS, 3-1, in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.
CMS took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the first inning, but the Loggers broke through in the fifth. Connor Dunn led off with a walk and Tyler Brazelton followed with a single down the left-field line. Ian Hughes and Corey Roberts hit consecutive RBI singles to give Puget Sound a 2-1 edge.
The Loggers got an insurance run in the ninth inning when Hughes' triple allowed James Dejesus to score.
Both Brazelton (2-for-5) and Hughes (2-for-4) finished the game with multiple hits.
The Loggers and Stags conclude their three-game series on Sunday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m.
