TACOMA, Washington – The crosstown rivalry between Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran returns to Cheney Stadium when the Loggers host the Lutes on April 4, at 6 p.m.
Cheney Stadium is named after Ben Cheney, whose family is a long-time supporter of Puget Sound athletics. Cheney's son, Brad Cheney, is a member of the University of Puget Sound Board of Trustees. He played an integral role in bringing the Loggers back to Cheney Stadium, which is the home for the Seattle Mariners' Triple-A affiliate, Tacoma Rainiers.
Brady Cheney is also a former Puget Sound head coach, and he led the Loggers against the Lutes in several games at Cheney Stadium.
"Some of my favorite memories of being a student-athlete at Puget Sound include a couple games during my junior year when we were lucky enough to get to play here at Cheney Stadium," said third-year Puget Sound baseball head coach Jeff Halstead.
"I'm looking forward to the great atmosphere on April 4th," said Halstead. "The crowd, the lights, the rivalry, it's going to be a special night."
First pitch for the game on Tuesday, April 4, is set for 6 p.m. Admission is free for all fans and community members.
