TACOMA, Washington – Cal Muramaru went 2-for-3 and scored two runs, but the Puget Sound baseball team lost at home to No. 12 Cal Lutheran, 9-4, on Thursday afternoon.
The Loggers (11-20) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning after putting pressure on the Kingsmen's (22-6) defense. Jack Gries led off with a single, and Muramaru moved him into scoring position with a sac bunt. Corey Roberts followed with a ground out that allowed Gries to take third, and the Logger catcher scored as Mason Quinlan reached base on a throwing error by the third baseman.
Cal Lutheran posted three runs in the top of the third inning, but the Loggers got a run back in the home half of the frame. Muramaru reached base with a bunt single, and he eventually came around to score on an RBI single by Quinlan.
The wheels fell off for Puget Sound in the fifth inning, however, as Cal Lutheran scored three runs without the benefit of a base hit.
Dunn finished the afternoon 2-for-3 at the plate for his second multi-hit game of the season.
Puget Sound returns to Northwest Conference action at George Fox on Friday, April 14, for a doubleheader that starts at 12 p.m.
