Loggers begin NWC schedule against their crosstown rivals

TACOMA, Washington – The Northwest Conference schedule begins this weekend for the Puget Sound baseball team when the Loggers take on a familiar foe. Puget Sound is schedule for three games at Pacific Lutheran, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 17, starting at 11 a.m., followed by a single 12 p.m. game on Sunday, Feb. 18.

Not your average Joe

Joe Brennan was named the Northwest Conference Pitcher of the Week after throwing six shutout innings during a 7-0 win over Lewis & Clark (Feb. 10). The sophomore southpaw struck out five, allowed five hits, and didn't walk a batter as the Loggers rolled to a 7-0 win. 

 

Solid Masonry

Mason Quinlan ranks in the NWC in hitting with a .500 batting average through four games. He is hitting 8-for-16 so far this season, including a three-hit effort at George Fox (Feb. 12).

 

Peak pitching

In addition to Brennan's great game against the Pioneers, Warnick tossed seven shutout innings during the Loggers' 9-1 win at George Fox (Feb. 12). Puget Sound's pitching enters this weekend with a 3.09 ERA, and the Loggers are limiting opponents to a .244 batting average.

Ryan Moyes had a big game against George Fox (Feb. 12), hitting 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, and three runs scored.

 

Scouting Pacific Lutheran (2-6, 0-0 NWC)

The Lutes suffered six consecutive losses before upsetting Linfield, 7-5, in a non-conference game (Feb. 11). Predicted by NWC head coaches to finish fourth in the league, Pacific Lutheran is hitting .240 through eight games this season, and its pitching staff has a 5.54 ERA. Jacob Bockelle and Cole Johnson have both homered this season.
