Rivalry put on hold

The Loggers were scheduled to play three games at Pacific Lutheran last weekend, but mother nature had other plans. Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran played 4.5 innings Tuesday afternoon, but that was suspended with the score tied, 1-1.

Southpaw

Lefty starting pitcher Joe Brennan has allowed just one earned run in 10 innings (two starts) this season. He was on the hill at Pacific Lutheran before the game was suspended. Brennan was named the Northwest Conference Pitcher of the Week after he blanked Lewis & Clark through six innings (Feb. 10).

Top of the ERA

Puget Sound's pitching staff leads the NWC with a 3.09 ERA. Joe Brennan as 0.90 ERA, Michel Warnick blanked George Fox in his seven-inning start (Feb. 12), and Andrew Matsueda and Ryota Nishina have both tossed three scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

By any means

The Loggers are hitting a fair .263 as a team this season, but their .380 on-base percentage is third in the NWC. Puget Sound's 21:26 walk-to-strikeout ratio is the second-best in the NWC.

About the opposition

Claremont-M-S is 8-3 this season (3-0 SCIAC), including a 2-2 record against NWC teams. The stags lost to Willamette and Whitman, but swept Lewis & Clark in a doubleheader. Patrick Gavin and Henri Levenson have both homered twice this season. Pomona-Pitzer is 5-2, and it has yet to play a SCIAC game. The Sagehens beat Willamette and Lewis & Clark this season, and split a doubleheader with Whitman. Jeremiah Quezada leads the team in hitting with a .407 batting average, and Jeremy Jess is hitting .393. Visiting from Lewiston, Maine, Bates is off to an 0-4 start. The Bobcats compete in the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
