The non-conference clashes

The Loggers opened the 2018 season by playing the Pioneers twice in a three-game span. Joe Brennan hurled six shutout innings and struck out five during Puget Sound's 7-0 win over Lewis & Clark (Feb. 10). Brennan was subsequently named the NWC Pitcher of the Week. The Pioneers got the better of the Loggers the following day by capturing a 6-4 win (Feb. 11). Tyler Brazelton went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI for the Loggers.

Kings of the hill

Puget Sound enters this weekend with a league-best 3.78 ERA. Michael Warnick has allowed just two earned runs through two starts (13.0 IP) this season, and the bullpen has been stellar thus far. Puget Sound relievers combine for a 2.70 ERA.

Run this town

Puget Sound has already amassed 71 runs through eight games this season. Last year, the Loggers scored 130 runs in 38 games. Puget Sound averages 8.88 runs per game, which trails only George Fox (8.93) in the NWC.

Above average

Three Loggers rank among the top-10 hitters in the NWC. Mason Quinlan's .432 batting average is fifth in the league, while Kyle Strash's .412 mark is seventh. Jack Gries is hitting .400, which ranks ninth in the conference.

California dreaming

Puget Sound posted a 4-0 record during its trip to Claremont, California, last weekend. The Loggers beat Claremont-M-S twice, 13-3 and 14-6. Puget Sound also defeated Pomona-Pitzer, 13-10, and Bates, 9-3.

Scouting Lewis & Clark

The Pioneers enter this weekend with a six-game losing streak, and their only win this season is against Puget Sound (Feb. 11). The pitching staff is last in the NWC for ERA (8.15) and opponent batting average (.333). Offensively, Lewis & Clark struggles to pace with the opposition, as its 53 total runs this season is second-to-last in the NWC. Sean Shepherd leads the team in hitting with a .380 batting average, and Matt Donovan has a team-high nine RBI.
