TACOMA, Washington – The Northwest Conference's top offensive team hosts Whitman for a three-game league series starting with a 12 p.m. doubleheader Friday, March 30.

Booming bats

Puget Sound is tied with Linfield for the NWC lead in batting average (.295). The Loggers also lead the NWC in slugging percentage (.412) and rank second in on-base percentage (.393).

 

Not playing like a rook

Freshman Kyle Strash ranks fifth in the NWC for hitting (.377) and second in on-base percentage (.500). In his last 12 games, Strash is hitting .357 with eight runs scored, eight RBI, and eight walks.

 

Top-10

Kyle Strash isn't the only Logger who ranks in the conference's top 10 for batting average. Mason Quinlan's .368 average is sixth, and Jack Gries' .352 mark is 10th.

 

Winning Warnick

Michael Warnick has the best record (5-1) among all starting pitchers in the NWC. His 3.25 ERA ranks fourth among all pitchers with at least five starts.

 

Slug it out

Nick Ultsch's .657 slugging percentage ranks second in the NWC. He is one of only two players in the league with multiple doubles (8), triples (2), and home runs (3).  

 

Tight race

Entering this weekend, 2.5 games separate the second-place and eighth-place teams in the NWC. Pacific Lutheran leads the league with a 15-2 NWC record, followed by Linfield at 8-7. The Loggers are in fifth with a 7-7 league mark, and Pacific is eighth with a 7-11 NWC record.

 

Scouting Whitman (13-15, 8-7 NWC)

The Blues were swept in three games at home against Pacific Lutheran last week, but Whitman bounced back with a 2-1 win against Whitworth, Tuesday. Whitman leads the league with 18 home runs, but the team's 6.06 ERA is second-to-last in the NWC. Joseph Zimmer's seven home runs are tops in the NWC, and Lucas Thrun's .414 batting average is second.
