Cheney Stadium to host to crosstown rivalry

TACOMA, Washington – For the second consecutive season, the Puget Sound baseball team brings its crosstown rivalry against Pacific Lutheran to Cheney Stadium, Thursday, April 26, at 7 p.m. Cheney Stadium is the home of the Tacoma Rainiers, triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. The game counts as a home contest for the Loggers.

Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer

The Loggers are teaming up with Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer to combat childhood cancers. Puget Sound will have a booth at Cheney Stadium for collect donations for the cause.


Conference hardware

Four Loggers earned All-Northwest Conference honors, the league announced earlier this week. Kyle Strash was named the Freshman of the Year and placed on the All-NWC First Team. Jack Gries was selected to the All-NWC Second Team, while Hunter Riley and Michael Warnick were both named All-NWC Honorable Mention. Click HERE to read more about the All-NWC Team.


King the rook

First-year player Kyle Strash leads the NWC in both hitting (.392) and on-base percentage (.519). He currently holds an 11-game hitting streak.


Department honors

Three Logger baseball student-athletes were recognized during the Puget Sound athletic department's annual All-Sports Celebration Tuesday night. Jack Gries earned the Harry Werbisky Award for Scholarship, Skill, and Determination. Nick Ultsch received the Dill Howell Award for Most Improved Student-Athlete. James Dejesus was recognized for having the top GPA (3.96) among all male graduating student-athletes. Click HERE to read more about the All-Sports Celebration.


Upper level homer

All-NWC honoree Hunter Riley saved the first home run of his season for an NCAA D-I opponent. Riley crush a solo home run in the first inning of the Loggers' game at Seattle University, April 23.


Mashing Ultsch  

Entering Thursday's game, Nick Ultsch ranks 10th in the NWC in RBI (30), 11th in home runs (4), third in triples (3), and 10th in slugging percentage (.527).


2017 Cheney Stadium Game

Alex Wojtysiak '17 and Ryan Darrow '17 both hit solo home runs against PLU at Cheney Stadium last year, but the game was suspended in the fifth inning with the score tied, 2-2. The game resume a couple of weeks later at Logger Field, where Puget Sound pulled out a 4-2 victory.


Scouting Pacific Lutheran (23-16, 18-6 NWC)

The Lutes earned the No. 1 seed in the Northwest Conference and hosted the NWC Tournament this past weekend. However, Pacific Lutheran was bounced from the tournament following losses to George Fox and Willamette. The Lutes managed one win, against Linfield, between their two losses. Jacob Bockelie was named the NWC Player of the Year, and Nolan Soete was named the NWC Coach of the Year.
