Nearly 90 Puget Sound student-athletes received their undergraduate diplomas during the university’s 127th commencement in Baker Stadium Sunday afternoon. More than 3,000 people were attendance during the warm and sunny event.
Puget Sound Athletics finished fourth for the 2018-19 Northwest Conference McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports Trophy, rounding out the academic year with 198 points. The Loggers matched Whitman in the standings, and Whitworth led the NWC with 268 points.
For the third consecutive year, Puget Sound hosted Pacific Lutheran for a non-conference game at Cheney Stadium, home of the Seattle Mariners’ Triple-A affiliate Tacoma Rainiers, Wednesday night. For the first time in those three years, the Lutes came away with a win, 7-3.
More than 400 Puget Sound student-athletes, coaches, staff, family, and friends gathered in Memorial Fieldhouse Tuesday evening for the annual All-Sports Celebration. The Loggers celebrated a wide array of accomplishments for the 2018-19 year, ranging from Northwest Conference titles to Academic All-American honors.
The Puget Sound baseball team’s three-game home series against Whitman will start with a doubleheader Friday, April 12, at 12 p.m. The series is scheduled to conclude with a single game Saturday at 12 p.m.
Mason Quinlan did it again. The junior first baseman who is quickly developing a penchant for clutch hits belted a go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth inning to give the Puget Sound baseball team a 6-5 victory over Linfield at Logger Field Sunday afternoon. Puget Sound completed its three-game sweep over the Wildcats, and the Loggers pushed their winning streak to six games.
Following a week in which the Puget Sound baseball team earned a dominant three-game Northwest Conference sweep on the road, senior left fielder Jack Gries was named the Logger Club Logger of the Week.
One-run games continue to stifle the Puget Sound baseball team as Whittier won both ends of a doubleheader, 5-4 and 6-5 (10 inn.), in non-conference action Saturday afternoon. The Loggers have suffered six one-run losses this season, including three in their last four games.
The Puget Sound baseball team returns to the Golden State to take on four Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) teams over the course of four days. The Loggers have a doubleheader at Whittier (March 16), followed by single games at Occidental (March 17), at Cal Lutheran (March 18), and at Pomona-Pitzer (March 19).
