Loggers' six-game winning streak ends at Whitworth

SPOKANE, Washington – The Puget Sound baseball team's six-game winning streak was snapped at Whitworth as the Pirates won both ends of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

Puget Sound 2, Whitworth 10

The Pirates raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and they never looked back en route to winning the first game of the doubleheader, 10-2.

Jake Briscoe (2-for-4) and Tyler Brazelton (2-for-3) finished with multiple hits for the Loggers. Both Jack Gries and Corey Roberts hit doubles.

The Loggers scored their first run of the game when Briscoe drove Brazelton home with an RBI single the fifth inning. In the seventh inning, Connor Dunn hit an RBI single back up the middle to plate Mason Quinlan.

Puget Sound 6, Whitworth 9

Kyle Strash and Makoa Mau finished with three hits, each, but once again Whitworth claimed an early lead on its way to a 9-6 win.

Puget Sound was down, 3-0, through three innings, but it tied the game in the top of the fourth.

Hunter Riley led off the fourth with a walk, and Corey Roberts followed with a single. Following a sacrifice bunt by Ricardo Barraza, Tyler Brazelton cleared the bases with a double. Brazelton later came around to score the tying run off a single by Mau.

The even score was short-lived, however, as Whitworth scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

The Northwest Conference series concludes Sunday, April 7, at 12 p.m.
