Logger Pair Named Academic All-District

TACOMA, Wash. - Just a few days after receiving their undergraduate degrees, a pair of Puget Sound Loggers have been honored for their academic success as seniors Garrett Gentling (Shoreline, Wash./Shorewood) and Megan Roosen-Runge (Freeland, Wash./South Whidbey) have been named First Team Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Gentling earned honors after maintaining a 3.83 GPA as a business major, all while going on to earn First Team All-American honors in the 200 Medley Relay at the 2009 NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championship in March in Minneapolis, Minn.  He was also second at the NWC Championship in the 100 Backstroke and earned an academic achievement award as having the highest GPA among graduating male student-athletes.

Roosen-Runge earns honors after helping lead the Logger women's crew program to a seventh-straight NCAA Rowing Championship while carrying a 3.88 GPA as a biochemistry major.  Rowing in the number one seat for the fifth-ranked Varsity 8+ shell, she holds the top GPA in the women's crew program.  The Logger women's crew team travels to New Jersey next week to compete in the NCAA Rowing Championship.

By earning a spot on the Academic All-District First Team, the two student-athletes are now eligible for selection to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America team.

The Academic All-America program is run by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
