Loggers End Season On High Note With 58-14 Win

TACOMA, Wash. - With 18 seniors playing their final game in the maroon and white, the Puget Sound Loggers ended the 2008 campaign on a high note, defeating the Lewis & Clark Pioneers, 58-14, in a Northwest Conference football game on Saturday afternoon at Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.

The Loggers got on the board on their first drive as Kavin Williams (Ocean Shores, Wash./North Beach) fought his way through the Lewis & Clark defense for an 11-yard touchdown run that gave UPS the 7-0 lead after the PAT by Wyatt Evenson (Spokane, Wash./Shadle Park). The Loggers scored again with 2:46 remaining in the first quarter when Silas Paul (Portland, Ore./Lincoln) scored the first of his four touchdowns on the day to give the Loggers a 14-0 lead.

The Pioneers struck in the early part of the second quarter when Joevonte Mayes ran the ball in from 12 yards out for a L&C touchdown that cut the Logger lead in half, 14-7. Just two plays later, Williams and the Loggers struck again as the junior quarterback ran the ball 53 yards for a 21-7 Logger lead. Puget Sound made it 28-7 when Paul scored his second touchdown of the game on a three-yard rush with 9:57 remaining. In the third, Evenson nailed a 35 yard field goal with 10:25 left to put the lead to 37 points and then Darrell Stewart (Long Beach, Calif./Loyola) caught a 40 yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback Spencer Crace (Wilsonville, Ore.) that gave UP a 51-7 lead. Crace had another long touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, connecting with Richard Bigelow (Lake Tapps, Wash./Auburn Riverside) for a 45-yard scored with 5:17 left to go as the Loggers scored 58th point on the Evenson PAT. The Pios didn't give up, scoring on a quarterback sneak by AJ Brown with five seconds left to play to settle on the final score of 58-14.
