Logger Football Trio Named Academic All-District

TACOMA, Wash. - For the second straight season, senior offensive lineman Boone Freeman (Tonasket, Wash.) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District team. Freeman is joined this year by senior linebacker Eric Borton (Yakima, Wash./West Valley) and senior defensive end Brian Walker (Keizer, Ore./McNary).

Freeman, a physics and mathematics major with a 3.68 grade-point average, anchors the offensive line for a team that is averaging over 300 yards per game of total offense. The starting left tackle on the 2008 team, Freeman was an Honorable Mention All-Northwest Conference selection in 2007.

Borton earns Academic All-District honors for the first time after leading the NWC in tackles this season while carrying a 3.56 GPA in business. He averages 9.71 tackles per game to lead the NWC, a total which ties him for 56th on the national tackles list.

Walker is also a first-time honoree, carrying a 3.52 GPA as an English major. He was named NWC Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week following a triple-overtime win over Claremont-M-S in which he blocked two game-winning field goals.

By earning a spot on the Academic All-District First Team, the three are now eligible for selection to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America team, which will be released in November.

The Academic All-America program is run by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
