Freeman Named Academic All-American
TACOMA, Wash. - For just the third time in school history, a Puget Sound Logger football player has been named an ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American. Senior offensive lineman Boone Freeman (Tonasket, Wash.) has been named a second team selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Freeman, a physics and mathematics major carrying a 3.68
grade-point average, was named Second Team All-Northwest Conference
after anchoring an offensive line that blocked for an average of
351.6 yards of total offense per game. Freeman earned Academic
All-District honors in both 2007 and 2008.
The only other two Loggers who have been named Academic All-Americans both did so before Freeman was even born. Offensive tackle Brian Threlkeld and defensive back Buster Crook earned honors in 1982.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
