D3football Tabs Kniffin As First Team Preseason All-American

Complete D3football.com Preseason All-America Teams

TACOMA, Wash. – D3football.com has tabbed Puget Sound senior Adam Kniffin as one of the top returning wide receivers in the country as a First Team Preseason All-American. Kniffin is just one of two receivers to receive the First Team accolade.

"We are absolutely thrilled that Adam has been recognized by D3football as one of the top returners in the country this year," stated head coach Jeff Thomas. "Adam has almost completely rewritten the record book for wide receivers at Puget Sound. While individual honors are great, he is completely focused on our team goals for the year."

The 2012 preseason honor adds to Kniffin's already growing legacy at Puget Sound. He has broken all but two of the Loggers' existing receiving records in his career. His school records include receptions (game, season and career), receiving yardage (season) and TD catches (game, season and career). He is also a two-time All-NWC and All-West Region selection.

The only records left for Kniffin to set are receiving yards in a game and in a career. He is well within reach of the career mark of 2,312 yards set by Mike Bos from 1979-82. Kniffin is 406 yards shy of that mark with 1,906 career yards. Bos also holds the single game record of 222 receiving yards. Kniffin's career-high is 216 yards.

With 1,906 yards and a school record 187 catches, Kniffin is averaging 10.2 yards per catch and 105.9 yards per game as well as over 10 catches per game. He has already shattered the career mark for touchdown catches with 29 TDs. The previous record was 21 for Dan Thurston from 1966-69.

The Northwest Conference was represented on both sides of the ball with Kniffin on the offensive end and Linfield's defensive lineman Tyler Steele on the defensive side. Both earned First Team honors.

The Loggers will open the 2012 season on the road at Sewanee (Tenn.) on Sep. 1. Their home-opener will be Sep. 22 against Whittier at 1 p.m.

After an injury left him on the sideline for his freshman year, Kupono Park has fought back to earn the starting role at running back for the Loggers this year. While Kupono is known for his work ethic, he is also known as one of the funniest members of the football team. “Being a Logger means being able to hack hack and chop chop your way through life.”
