TACOMA, Washington – Leave it to a pair of seniors to reach the end zone against No. 7 Linfield on Senior Day. Senior quarterback Hans Fortune connected with senior running back Austin Wagner for the Puget Sound football team's lone touchdown in a 33-7 loss against the Wildcats on Saturday afternoon in Baker Stadium.
Prior to kickoff, the Loggers (3-5, 1-5 NWC) honored their graduating seniors and their families. Fortune and Wagner stood in the spotlight once more after connecting on a 12-yard touchdown play early in the fourth quarter.
The Logger defense held the Wildcats (7-1, 6-0 NWC) well below their average of 44 points per game. In fact, Puget Sound was within striking distance at halftime, 13-0. Two key miscues for the Loggers in the opening half were dropped pass near the goal line, and a fake field goal that was snuffed out by Linfield.
Senior safety Jacob Wuesthoff recorded 10 tackles for the Loggers, marking his seventh game with double-digit tackles this season.
Puget Sound held the Wildcats to their second-lowest scoring output of the year. Linfield managed 27 points in a 66-27 loss at No. 5 Mary Hardin-Baylor in the second week of the season.
The Loggers close out the 2016 campaign at Pacific on Saturday, Nov. 12. Puget Sound looks to finish the season with a win for the third consecutive year. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
