Nakamine, Loggers Win Logger Invite
FIRCREST, Wash. - Sophomore Natalie Nakamine (Pearl City, Hawaii/Roosevelt) fired a 77 and the Puget Sound Logger improved their team score by 15 strokes as they won the women's portion of the Logger Invitational on Friday at Fircrest Golf Club in Fircrest, Wash. The Logger men took third in the highly-competitive four-team field.
On the women's side, Nakamine fired a two-over 77 to win medalist honors by seven strokes over Whitney Ueno of Willamette. Nakamine's 77 is the second best score in Logger women's golf history, just one stroke back of Emily Lau's 76, which she did twice during her four-year career. Sarah Bicker (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) took third with a two-day total of 176 as the Loggers took first by 29-strokes over second-place Linfield. Neither Willamette nor Pacific Lutheran had enough golfers to earn team scores.
On the men's side, the Loggers were led by two-days of sub-80 scores from Jordan Hodge (Tucson, Ariz.) and Greg Kirkpatrick (Longview, Wash./Mark Morris) as the duo tied for 6th place with a 36-hole total of 157. The Linfield Wildcats used an even 300 on day two to win the team title by 32 strokes over second-place Pacific Lutheran, who finished with 627 on the tourney. The Loggers were three strokes back of that for third and Willamette rounded out the team scores in fourth with a score of 645. Tyler Nelson of Linfield earned medalist honors, shooting an even-par 142 for the tournament.
The Loggers head down to Oregon next weekend to participate in the Boxer Invitational, hosted by Pacific University.
