Logger Women Win Shortened Pacific Invite

NORTH PLAINS, Ore. - With a little help from Mother Nature, the Puget Sound Loggers were declared winners of the Pacific Invitational Women's Golf Tournament on Sunday after wet weather forced the cancellation of the final round at Pumpkin Ridge GC in North Plains, Ore.  On the men's side, the Loggers tied for second among those teams who were able to complete their rounds.

The Logger women shot a 372 over the first 18 holes to win the tournament by 13 strokes over second place Linfield. Host Pacific was third at 394, followed by Linfield (402), Whitworth (404) and Lewis & Clark (472). Sophomore Natalie Nakamine (Pearl City, Hawaii/Roosevelt) earned medalist honors after shooting an 88 on the tournament. Sarah Bicker (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) took second after carding an 89.

The Logger men were one of six teams to finish on Saturday before the heavy rains hit, carding a 318.  The team score was good enough to tie with Pacific for second place, six strokes back of Linfield.  Jordan Hodge (Tucson, Ariz.) led the way for Puget Sound with a 77, good enough for fifth place, followed by a 78 from Mason Whitcomb (Gig Harbor, Wash.), which gave him sixth place.

The Loggers will next hit the links on Mar. 30 when they head over the Chambers Bay GC in University Place, Wash. for the Norhtwest Conference Spring Classic.
