Bonk, Pacific Men Lead NWC Spring Classic After First Day

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. - Led by a six-under par 65 from Max Bonk, the Pacific Boxers built a six-stroke lead following day one of the Northwest Conference Men's Golf Spring Classic on Monday at Chambers Bay Golf Club in University Place, Wash.

Bonk used five birdies and an eagle to shoot the six-under to put the Boxers in the lead.  Teammate Tim Andrew shot an even-par 71 to help Pacific build the six-stroke margin.  Linfield sits in second following day one with a team score of 300, followed by co-hosts Pacific Lutheran (305) and Puget Sound (308).  Willamette is in fifth with a scored of 317, followed by Whitworth (318), Whitman (320) and George Fox (333).  Lewis & Clark did not send any golfers to the tournament.

The Loggers were led by a two-over par 73 from Jordan Hodge (Tucson, Ariz.).  Greg Kirkpatrick (Longview, Wash./Mark Morris) and Marc Phillips (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) both finished with a 78 to help the Loggers into the top four.

The Spring Classic, which counts for one-fourth of the final NWC standings, will conclude on Tuesday with the first group set to take to the course around 9:00 a.m.

The top golfer for the Loggers in 2008-09, Jordan carried an average of 78.3 strokes per round as Puget Sound had one of the top seasons in school history. "I knew Puget Sound was a great small school in a part of the country that I really liked. I also knew I would be able to continue to compete, which was important to me."
