W. Golf Holds Onto 19th at NCAA Championship

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - In their second round of the 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship, the Puget Sound Loggers maintained their spot in the team standings, holding onto 19th place after shooting a +72 360 on Thursday at the Wanamaker Course at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Sarah Bicker (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) shot the best round of the day for Puget Sound, carding a 16-over 88, including a birdie on the third hold to put her at 30-over for the tournament.  Natalie Nakamine (Pearl City, Hawaii/Roosevelt) and Maresa Jenson (Whitefish, Mont.) each added +18 90s on the day.  Megan Starr (Wayzata, Minn./Hopkins) was the lone Logger to improved her score from the first round, shooting a 20-over 92, including a birdie on the 11th hole.  Britt Hamlin (Corvallis, Ore./Oregon State) had a rough second day, finishing at 103 on the round.

Defending champion and tournament host Methodist is in first after firing a +22 310 on day two to go to 55-over on the tournament.  Top-ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point sits at 64-over while Southwestern is in third at 69-over.

The tournament continues on Friday morning with the first group set to tee off at 7:30 a.m. EDT.

The top golfer for the Loggers in 2008-09, Jordan carried an average of 78.3 strokes per round as Puget Sound had one of the top seasons in school history. "I knew Puget Sound was a great small school in a part of the country that I really liked. I also knew I would be able to continue to compete, which was important to me."
