W. Golf Takes 18th at NCAA Championships
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - One day after carding their best round of the season, the Puget Sound Logger women's golf team did themselves four strokes better on the fourth and final day of the 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship, using a 332 to move into 18th place in the final standings on Saturday at the PGA Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Sophomore Natalie Nakamine (Pearl City, Hawaii/Roosevelt) tied her season-best with a five-over 77 while Sarah Bicker (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) fired a season-best six-over 78 to help the Loggers move up a spot in the team standings. Maresa Jenson (Whitefish, Mont.) carded an 85 on the day while Megan Starr (Wayzata, Minn./Hopkins) and Britt Hamlin (Corvallis, Ore./Oregon State) shot 92 and 100 respectively.
The 44-over 332 is a season best both by total strokes and by strokes over par. The previous season best by total strokes was set by the team yesterday when they fired a 336 while the previous best by strokes over par was a +45 on the second day of the 2009 Northwest Conference Championships.
Methodist won their 12th straight national title with a 105-over 1257 over the four day event. Methodist junior Susan Martin also repeated as national champion, going six-over for the tournament to earn medalist honors.
