Logger Golf Plays Well In Season Opener

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Playing their first 36 holes of the 2008-09 season, the Puget Sound Loggers put together a pair of strong performances on Sunday and Monday at the NWC Washington Tournament at Canyon Lakes GC in Kennewick, Wash.  The Logger men tied for first while the women finished in second place.

On the men's side, senior Tim Bartz (University Place, Wash./Oregon State) put up a pair of rounds in the 70s, including a one-over 73 in the final round to finish just one stroke back of medalist honors with a 149.  The men were helped by three sub-80 rounds on both days to put together a team score of 620 and tie Whitworth for first-place honors.  Ryan Young of Whitworth and Brian Barton of Whitman tied for medalist honors with 148.

On the women's side, Logger sophomore Natalie Nakamine (Pearl City, Hawaii/Roosevelt) had an outstanding collegiate debut, taking medalist honors with a 158.  After shooting 81 on the first day, Nakamine came back and shot a four-over 77 on the second day to finish nine strokes better than second-place Krystal Pitkonen of Whitworth.  As a team, the Loggers took second with a 699, ten strokes back of first-place Whitworth and 100 strokes better than Pacific Lutheran.  Whitman only had two players and did not score.
