BREMERTON, Wash. – Both Puget Sound golf teams were back on the course on Saturday for the Northwest Conference Spring Classic. The men's team is in fifth in the conference-wide event and the women's team sits in eighth.
Matt Kitto led the men's squad on the first day of the two-day tournament. He was four-over par with a 76 through 18 holes. Halle Peterson led the women's squad with a first round tally of 90 (+18).
Kitto will go into day two tied for ninth but his teammates aren't far behind him. Derek Wilson had just one more stroke than Kitto as he came in with a 77 (+5)in 11th. Adam Bean was just six-over par and Ricky Howard was seven-over to round out the Loggers' team scorecard.
As a team, the Loggers fired a 310 (+22) to place fourth at the halfway point. Whitworth leads the field as they had two players shoot even par to pace the squad. They were just three-over as a team and take a 12-stroke lead into the final round.
Peterson paced the women's team in 21st. Ev Grier was 32-over on the day and Lauren Boniface came into the clubhouse with a 117 (+45). Madison Cox rounded out the Loggers' team scoring in 34th.
The NWC Spring Classic wraps up tomorrow at the Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton, Wash. for both the men's and women's teams.
