Chase, Koach Named Academic All-District

TACOMA, Wash. - After helping put their teams in prime position for the Northwest Conference playoff push, junior guard Colin Koach (Portland, Ore./Franklin) and senior post Karen Chase (Yakima, Wash./West Valley) have been honored for their academic success, being named ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII selections on Thursday.

Koach was named to the College Division Third Team after posting a grade-point average of 3.93 as an International Political Economy major.  The second straight season that Koach has been honored by CoSIDA for his academics, he is averaging 15.2 minutes per game for the sixth-ranked Loggers, putting up an average of 4.0 points per game and a little over one assist per game.

Chase earns honors for the first time in her career, being named to the College Division Second Team.  The fifth-leading scorer in the NWC at 12.4 ppg, Chase holds down a GPA of 3.63 as a Science, Technology and Society major.  She is also just 31 points shy of 1,000 for her career in the maroon and white.

The Academic All-America program is run by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
