New Look Loggers Surge Past Lutes, 75-63

PARKLAND, Wash. - Led by 40 minutes from senior guard Colin Koach (Portland, Ore./Franklin), the Puget Sound Loggers took care of business, knocking off the Pacific Lutheran Lutes, 75-63, in a Northwest Conference men's basketball game on Tuesday night in Parkland, Wash.

The Loggers started the game with an unusual line-up on the floor as Puget Sound played with a bigger lineup than usual and after a few early baskets by the Lutes, it seemed to pay off as a 6-0 run put the Loggers up as they began to wear down PLU.  The Loggers continued to battle as they took a 36-30 lead into the break.

The Puget Sound lead hit double-digits with 18:35 left on the clock as a three-pointer by Bryce Levin (Everett, Wash.) put the Loggers up by 12 points, 42-30.  PLU was able to get the lead back into single digits on a few occasions but the Loggers continued to hit the big shots as they kept the Lutes at bay.  After PLU turned to fouling to try to slow down the Loggers, Puget Sound hit the free throws as they ended up cruising to the 75-63 win.

The Loggers were led by 25 points from Koach, who also added 10 rebounds and seven assists in the win.  Levin ended the contest with 22 points while freshman Riggs Yarbro (Moses Lake, Wash./Moses Lake Christian) put up 10 points in his return after nearly a month away.  Sophomore Kaleb Shelton (Tacoma, Wash./Lincoln) tied with Koach for a team-best 10 rebounds on the night.

PLU was led by 17 points from Kyle McTaggart.  James Conti added 16 points before fouling out while Curtis Trondsen chipped in 10 points in 17 minutes off the bench.  The Lutes turned the ball over just seven times but were outrebounded by the Loggers, 54-32.

The Loggers will head down to Salem, Ore. on Friday night to take on Willamette.  Tip with the Bearcats is set for 8:00 pm at Cone Field House.
