Loggers Come Back To Clip Eagles, 86-85

KIRKLAND, Wash. - Down by 18 points with 13:19 left to play, the comeback kids did it again as the Puget Sound Loggers slipped past the Northwest Eagles, 86-85, in a non-conference men's basketball game on Tuesday night in Kirkland, Wash.

In the first half, the two teams kept the game close.  The visiting Loggers (3-4) held the lead at the halfway point of the half but the Eagles (5-4) took the advantage in the final 10 minutes, holding a six-point lead at halftime, 43-37.

In the second half, it looked like Northwest would blow the game open early in the second half as the Eagles pushed the lead into double-digits on a three-pointer by Blake Solomon that put them up, 53-43, with 17:18 left to play.  The lead hit 18 with 13:19 left to play on another NU three-pointer but the Loggers began to chip away.  Puget Sound got the deficit down to single-digits with 9:01 left to play on a tip-in by Kaleb Shelton (Tacoma, Wash./Lincoln).

The Loggers took the lead with 3:11 left on the clock on a three-pointer by Bryce Levin (Everett, Wash.) that put Puget Sound up 80-79 and another three-pointer by Levin capped a 15-2 run that put the Loggers up by four points.

The Eagles tied it up on a free-throw by Tyson Christie with 1:21 left but sophomore Nadav Heyman (Corvallis, Ore.) hit a free-throw with 58 seconds left that would give the Loggers the lead for good as Puget Sound collected the 86-85 victory.

The Loggers were led by 23 points from senior Austin Boyce (Kent, Wash./Kentwood), who also added six rebounds.  Levin finished with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting from behind the arc.   Colin Koach (Portland, Ore./Franklin) finished with 13 points in the win.

Northwest was led by 19 points from Solomon.  Rich Skillman added 13 points off the bench while Greg Peters added 10 rebounds and five blocks in the losing effort.  The Eagles had six players score in double figures but couldn't quite hold off the Loggers.

The Loggers break for finals before returning to action on Dec. 19 when they play host to Warner Pacific.

A threat from both in the paint and outside the arc, Austin has frustrated coaches in the Northwest Conference for the last three seasons, helping the Loggers earn their place in the postseason. "Being a Logger means being a part of a great community, both school-wide and athletically."
