TACOMA, Washington – Nick Holden was nearly perfect from the floor as he scored a team-high 19 points in the Puget Sound men's basketball team's 82-53 rout over Mount St. Mary in the first day of the Doug McArthur Classic on Friday night.
Holden finished 8-for-9 from the field as the Loggers (1-1) shot 56.2 percent from the floor. Holden asserted himself early as he accounted for Puget Sound's first two baskets on the night, including a put-back off an offensive rebound. He scored 13 points in the first half to help the Loggers take a 37-24 lead into halftime.
Erin Barber stepped up for the Loggers in the second half, scoring 11 of his 17 points in the final period.
The Puget Sound lead reached 20 points after Barber hit a 3-pointer and Keith Shattuck followed with a layup that put the Loggers ahead, 50-30, with 16:03 on the clock in the second half.
The Puget Sound defense held the Knights (0-1) to just 40 percent from the floor (18-for-45), and a lowly 5.3 percent from 3-point range (1-for-19).
The Loggers improve to 3-2 in the Doug McArthur classic, and they conclude the weekend event with an 8 p.m. tipoff against Oglethorpe on Saturday, Nov. 22.
