The Loggers' seven seniors – Advit Raghavan, Zach Miller, Kohl Meyer, Carlos Mancasola, Nate Foggy, Andre Lewis, and Kyle King – were honored before the game. Easton Driessen led all scorers with 20 points. Mancasola had 11, and also pulled down seven rebounds. Lewis chipped in 10 points, while also recording three assists and four steals.
The Loggers (12-11, 5-9 NWC) and Pirates (20-3, 11-3 NWC) went back-and-forth for most of the first half, with the visitors holding a 24-23 lead with four minutes remaining. The nationally ranked Pirates then used a 9-2 run to end the period to take a 33-25 lead into the break.
Whitworth led by as many as 15 points in the second half, but with nine minutes remaining, the Loggers began to chip away at the deficit, at one point going on a 15-4 run. A made three-pointer by Mancasola with 30 seconds remaining cut the gap to three points, but the Pirates responded with four made free throws to ice the game away. Puget Sound outscored Whitworth, 37-36 in the second half.
Puget Sound shot 35.9 percent (23-for-64) from the field, while Whitworth shot 37.9 percent (22-for-58). The Loggers were 6-for-26 (23.1 percent) from beyond the arc. The Pirates were 6-for-21 (28.6 percent) on 3-point shots. Puget Sound was outrebounded 47-35, including giving up 15 offensive boards. The Loggers recorded 12 steals in the game.
Puget Sound will next travel across town to take on rival Pacific Lutheran on Tuesday, February 14. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 8 p.m.
