Keeping their Whits

The Loggers played a couple of road games against two top-five nationally-ranked teams last weekend. Puget Sound lost at No. 1 Whitman, 136-109, and fell to No. 4 Whitworth, 111-97. Despite the losses, Puget Sound is poised to make a postseason run. With a 5-5 Northwest Conference record entering this weekend, the Loggers are in fourth place in the NWC. The top four teams in the league qualify for the NWC Tournament, and the next several home games will be crucial for the Loggers.

I am the Wohrior

Junior Jimmy Wohrer continues to lead the NWC in scoring, and he enters the weekend averaging 22.4 points per game. He scored 28 points against both Whitman and Whitworth last weekend, while shooting 50-percent (12-for-24) from 3-point range. He leads the league in 3-pointers made per game by a wide margin. Wohrer is knocking down 4.3 treys per game, while the next-closest mark is Lewis & Clark's Kyle Owens with 3.2 3-pointers per game.

Stellan control

Sophomore Stellan Roberts is emerging as a consistent scoring threat for Puget Sound. He netted 19 points against both Whitman and Whitworth last weekend, and Roberts is averaging 18.5 points per game through his last four games.

Top 10 with the Logger men

Puget Sound ranks in the top 10 nationally for several team statistics. The Loggers are sixth in scoring offense (99.2), seventh in steals (248), fourth in forced turnovers per game (26.28), 10th in 3-point field-goals made (231), and fourth in offensive rebounds per game (16.89).

Scouting Willamette (9-11, 4-7 NWC)

The Bearcats enter the weekend with four losses in their last five games. Puget Sound won the first game against Willamette this season, 105-87 (Jan. 6). Stellan Roberts led the Loggers in scoring with 22 points, and Trent Callan led Willamette with 18 points. For the season, Jordan Jenkins lead the Bearcats in scoring with 13.7 points per game. Willamette is second-to-last in the NWC in total offense (72.7), and it is also second-to-last in 3-point percentage (34.0 percent).

Scouting George Fox (5-14, 1-9 NWC)

The Bruins have lost consecutive games – a streak that began with a 108-96 loss against Puget Sound (Jan. 5). Six Loggers scored in double figures in that gam, including a team-high 19 points by Jimmy Wohrer. The Bruins are the worst rebounding team in the NWC, averaging 33.1 boards per game. However, George Fox's 37.9 3-point percentage is the second-best in the NWC. Mason Green-Richards leads the team in scoring with 19.8 points per game, and Thomas Rico averages 16.4 points per game.
