Millienial milestone

A little more than 10 minutes into the 2018-19 Puget Sound men's basketball season was all Jimmy Wohrer needed to eclipse the 1,000-point career milestone, and the senior is the Logger Club Logger of the Week. Wohrer began the 2018-19 with 990 career points. Against Old Westbury in the season-opener at home (Nov. 17), Wohrer hit his fourth consecutive 3-pointer with 8:26 on the clock in the first half, giving him 1,002 career points.

Home-opening win for the hometown coach

Tacoma native, Puget Sound alumnus, and first-year Logger head coach Aubrey Shelton won his first game at the helm of the men's basketball program when the Loggers beat Old Westbury in overtime, 101-100 (Nov. 17). The game was part of the Doug McArthur Classic in Memorial Fieldhouse.

New style, similar result

Althought the Loggers are not playing at the same frantic pace as last year, Puget Sound is still putting up gaudy offensive numbers through the first two games of the season. So far this season, Puget Sound is attempting 34 3-pointers per game, and connecting on 50 percent of those attempts. Last year, the Loggers attempted 35 3-pointers per game, and hit 34.4 percent of those shots.

Leaving points on the table

The Loggers are shooting just 58.3 percent from the free-throw line (34-for-68). The free-throw woes were a factor in playing into overtime against Old Westbury, and Puget Sound missed eight free-throws in a nine-point loss, 86-77, against Sul Ross State (Nov. 18).

Scouring in double figures

Jimmy Wohrer leads the Loggers in scoring with 21.5 points per game. He's followed by Stellan Roberts (15.5) and Gabriel Chaikin (14.0). The trio has been unconscious from 3-point range, shooting a combined 24-for-44 (54.5 percent) from distance.

So, Cal

Freshman Cal Hansen has been impressive through his first two collegiate games with Puget Sound. He scored 10 points against Sul Ross State, and he grabbed 10 rebounds against Old Westbury. Overall, Hansen is average 22.5 minutes, 8.5 points, and 8.0 rebounds.

Scouting Chapman (1-1)

The Panthers' two games so far this season were against Northwest Conference teams: Linfield and Pacific. Chapman lost to Linfield, 74-57, but beat Pacific, 126-101. Rob Nelsen is the team's leading scoring with 15.4 points per game, and Luke Selway is Chapman's top rebounder with 7.0 boards per game.

Scouting Whittier (0-2)

The Poets' two games so far this season are losses against Northwest Conference teams. Whittier fell to both George Fox, 108-98, and Whitworth, 90-76. Kenyatta Louder has a team-high 18.0 points per game, and he's top rebounder with 7.5 rebounds per game.
