TACOMA, Wash. - Senior captain Taylor Hyde (Sandy, Utah/Waterford) scored twice in the first 14 minutes and sophomore Kyle Benson (Lynnwood, Wash./Kamiak) added a pair in the final 10 minutes as the Puget Sound Loggers blanked the St. Mary's (Minn.) Cardinals, 4-0, in an NCAA Division III men's soccer match on Sunday afternoon on Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.

The Loggers (2-2-0) got on the board early when Derek Woodworth (Tacoma, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) sent a feed from the upper right of the box and Hyde was able to get a head on the ball to put it past SMU keeper Jon Szafranski.  Hyde scored again in the 14th minute after SMU's Andy Adair was shown a red card following a hard tackle from behind in the penalty box and UPS was awarded a penalty kick, which Hyde successfully converted.

In the second half, the Loggers took advantage of the short-handed Cardinals, unleashing 20 of their 33 shots in the second half, including 13 on goal.  Benson scored his first of the game in the 82nd minute after taking a feed from Zac Semago (Tacoma, Wash./Bellarmine Prep).  Benson made it 4-0 in the 85th minute after taking a long feed from Cole Peterson (Great Falls, Mont./C.M. Russell) before finishing from about 10 yards out on the right.

Logger keeper Greg Saetrum (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) collected the first shutout of his collegiate career.  Saetrum had a relatively easy day, only have to make one save in the first half as St. Mary's was held to just four total shots.

The Loggers head to the Land of Lincoln next week for two games in the state of Illinois.  Puget Sound will face North Park on Friday in a night game before traveling down to Illinois Wesleyan for a game on Sunday afternoon.
