Logger Men Play To Scoreless Draw

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Playing in their third straight double-overtime game, the Puget Sound Loggers settled for a scoreless draw with the undefeated Whitman Missionaries in a Northwest Conference men's soccer game on Sunday afternoon in Walla Walla, Wash.

The Loggers (3-3-2, 1-0-2 NWC) played a strong defensive game in the first half, holding Whitman (5-0-5, 3-0-1 NWC) scoreless on six total shots as Greg Saetrum (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) made all three of his saves in the first 45 minutes.  In the second half, the Loggers turned on the offensive pressure, getting on four shots and making Brett Axelrod make stops on two of them.

Heading into overtime, the Loggers had a slight advantage on the field as Cooper Crosby of Whitman was shown a red card in the 88th minute following his second yellow card, which gave UPS the one-man advantage.  Despite that, the teams combined for just three shots in the overtime periods to settle for the scoreless draw.

Puget Sound will make their Northwest Conference home debut on Saturday when Linfield comes to town.  Game time with the Wildcats is set for 2:30 p.m. at Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.
