Logger Men Bitten By 'Cats, 1-0

TACOMA, Wash. - On a wet and windy fall day, the Puget Sound Loggers fell just shy against the Linfield Wildcats, falling 1-0 in a Northwest Conference men's soccer game on Saturday afternoon at Peyton Field in Tacoma, Wash.

In the first half, a stiff western wind allowed Linfield to put pressure on the Loggers offensively, outshooting UPS 8-4 in the first 45 minutes.  Despite the shot disparity, the Loggers and Wildcats nearly headed into halftime with a scoreless tie but Linfield's Kevin Donato scored a goal with just two seconds remaining in the period to give Linfield a 1-0 lead heading into the break.

In the second half, the Loggers took advantage of the windy conditions, getting off 10 shots compared with just two for Linfield.  Unfortunately for Puget Sound, when the Loggers shots were on goal, Linfield keeper Joe Locascio was there to stop them as the Linfield defense held on to the shutout.

The Loggers finished the game with a 14-10 shot advantage and a seven-to-one corner kick advantage.  Greg Saetrum (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) made four saves for the Loggers while Locascio finished with three saves for the 'Cats.

The Loggers will look to bounce back on Sunday afternoon when they play host to Pacific.  Game time with the Boxers is set for 2:30 p.m. on Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma.
