Johnson Goal Leads Loggers Past 'Cats, 1-0

SALEM, Ore. - Senior Kyle Johnson (Bremerton, Ore.) scored in the 17th minute as the Puget Sound Loggers held off the Willamette Bearcats, 1-0, in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon in Salem, Ore.

Johnson's goal came following a pass from freshman Eric Laukkanen (Forest Grove, Ore.) as Johnson fired in the shot from about five yards out on the left side of the goal.  In the end, that was the only shot that would matter though both offenses gave it their best effort.

Logger keeper Greg Saetrum (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) was solid in net, making 10 saves to collect the shutout as the Bearcats out shot Puget Sound 18-10.  Mark Bennett was strong for Willamette as well, making seven saves and allowing the one goal in the losing effort.

The Loggers return to Tacoma next Wednesday for a home match against Pacific Lutheran.  Game time with the Lutes is set for 3:30 p.m. on Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.
