Loggers Come Back To Beat Bruins, 4-3
TACOMA, Wash. - Freshman Sean Rice (Boulder, Colo.) scored twice, including the go-ahead goal, as the Puget Sound Loggers overcame a late deficit to defeat the George Fox Bruins, 4-3, in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon on Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.
George Fox got on the bored just 33 seconds into the game when Sean Daughtry took a pass from Connor Campbell and the Daughtry shot snuck past Logger keeper Greg Saetrum (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) for an early GFU lead. Rice evened things up in the 13th minute following a pass from sophomore Zach Semago (Tacoma, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) but Daughtry gave the Bruins the lead again in the 17th minute and the Bruins would hold onto the lead for awhile.
In the 77th minute, senior Taylor Hyde (Sandy, Utah/Waterford) rose above the crowd and got a head on a cross from Kyle Johnson (Bremerton, Wash.) to tie the game up at 2-2 as the Loggers and Bruins started to look at overtime. Just 1:19 later, in the 78th minute, Rice took the pass from Hyde and finished on the left side of the net to give the Loggers a 3-2 lead.
Semago made it 4-2 for the Loggers in the 82nd minute following the pass from Jackson Lindeke (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Paul Academy). George Fox scored one more with just 42 seconds remaining on an unassisted goal by Brennan Altringer but it was too late as the Loggers collected the 4-3 win.
Saetrum made two saves to collect the win while his Bruin counterpart Danny Kamna made five saves on the afternoon.
The Loggers return to action next Saturday when they play host to Whitman on East Athletic Field.
