Loggers Wrap Up 2008 With 2-0 Win

TACOMA, Wash. - Two first half goals was all the Puget Sound Loggers needed to conclude the season with a 2-0 win over the Willamette Bearcats in a Northwest Conference men's soccer game on Saturday afternoon on Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.

Puget Sound scored for the first time in the ninth minute when Kyle Johnson (Bremerton, Wash.) crossed a ball in from the upper-left corner of the box and Kyle Benson (Lynnwood, Wash./Kamiak) was on the receiving end, booting the ball in for an early 1-0 lead.  In the 30th minute, the Loggers struck again as Benson fed a ball in to Chris Shaw (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/Coeur d'Alene Charter) and Shaw finished near the right post for a 2-0 win.

Both squads went on the defensive in the second half, as WU keeper Mark Bennett and UPS keeper Greg Saetrum (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) each made a pair of saves in the final 45 minutes.  The Loggers outshot Willamette, 12-8, and held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Loggers conclude the 2008 season with a record of 10-7-2 overall and 8-4-2 in NWC play.
