Logger Men Fall In The Hawkeye State

PELLA, Iowa - Sophomore Michael Dooley (Portland, Ore./Central Catholic) scored the equalizer in the 68th minute but the Central Dutch answered back just a few minutes later as the Puget Sound Loggers fell, 2-1, in a NCAA Division III men's soccer game on Friday afternoon in Pella, Iowa.

The Loggers fell behind in the 32nd minute when Brett McKenzie collected a pass from Kevin McQuerrey and booted the ball past senior keeper Greg Saetrum (Boise, Idaho/Timberline).  Dooley evened things up in the second half after he was able to get his head on a corner kick by Derek Woodworth (Tacoma, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) to even the game up at 1-1.

Not wanting to lose on their home field, Central answered back in the 72nd minute as Tyler Archey scored his first goal of the season off assists from Jordan Appenzeller and McQuerrey.

Despite allowing the two goals, Saetrum performed well under pressure, making five saves as seven of Central's 13 shots were on goal.  The Loggers also showed promise in the offensive half, picking up five corner kicks on the day.

The Loggers will take Saturday off before heading to Indianola, Iowa on Sunday to take on Simpson College.
