Loggers Come Back To Calm Storm, 2-1

INDIANOLA, Iowa - After giving up an early goal, the Puget Sound Loggers used a pair of goals from senior Cole Peterson (Great Falls, Mont./C.M. Russell) to collect their first win of 2009, defeating the Simpson Storm, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon in Indianola, Iowa.

The game started out arduous for the Loggers after Simpson's Corey Miller scored from right in front of the net in the fifth minute to put Puget Sound behind early, 1-0.  The Loggers kept playing tough and it finally paid off in the 16th minute when Peterson gathered up a loose ball in the box following a corner kick by Derek Woodworth (Tacoma, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) and put it into the net for the equalizer.

The second half saw the debut of freshman keeper Chris McDonald (Newton, Mass./Noble & Greenough), who replace senior Greg Saetrum (Boise, Idaho/Timberline).  McDonald kept the Storm out of the net, making three saves in the second half.  Peterson gave the Loggers the lead in teh 59th minute, scoring unassisted for the 2-1 advantage and the maroon and white would hold on for the victory.

The Loggers held an 8-6 advantage in shots and a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.  Only one card was given as Simpson's Matt Winegard was shown a yellow shortly before Peterson's second goal.

The Loggers will wrap up their Iowa roadtrip on Monday when they travel to Cedar Rapids to take on Coe.
