Boxers Use One-Two Punch To Knock Out Loggers, 2-0
FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Unleashing a total of 42 shots between the two teams, the Puget Sound Loggers fell short against the Pacific Boxers, 2-0, in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon at Lincoln Park Stadium in Forest Grove, Ore.
Pacific opened up the scoring in the 28th minute when Avery Neal fed the ball in on a long cross from the far left and Sean Mills found himself with the ball in front of the net, knocking past Logger freshman Chris McDonald (Newton, Mass./Noble & Greenough) for an early 1-0 Boxer lead. Pacific doubled the lead just a few minutes later when Jasem Jaihouni fed a ball into Patrick Murray, who finished from five yards out for his third goal of the season.
In the second half, senior keeper Greg Saetrum (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) entered the game and had a strong half, making five saves in the final 45 minutes but the Logger offense couldn't find a way past the Boxer defense and Pacific keeper Andrew Stevermer as the home team collected the 2-0 victory.
Stevermer made four saves on 13 Loggers shots to collect the shutout. McDonald made three saves, allowing the two goals, on 19 Pacific first-half shots while Saetrum made his five saves on 10 second-half shots.
Puget Sound will stay in Oregon for one more game, taking on George Fox beginning at 2:30 p.m. in Newberg, Ore.
