Shaw Leads Loggers Past Bruins, 1-0

NEWBERG, Ore. - Gaining the only goal in an otherwise defensive battle, junior Chris Shaw (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/Coeur d'Alene Charter) led the Puget Sound Loggers past the George Fox Bruins, 1-0, in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Sunday afternoon in Newberg, Ore.

The Loggers' break came in the 11th minute when Shaw was able to fire a shot past GFU keeper Jake Maguire for the early 1-0 lead and the two defenses shut down the opposing offenses for the final 79 minutes.

Senior Greg Saetrum (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) had an outstanding match in his first start since Sep. 19, making five saves on 10 George Fox shots to collect the shutout and lower his GAA to 1.38.  Maguire made two saves for the Bruins, while allowing the one Logger goal, to take the loss.

Puget Sound held a 7-4 advantage on corner kicks and was whistled five times for offsides and they tried to maintain pressure on the Bruin defense.

The Loggers return to the pitch on Oct. 11 when they play host to Pacific Lutheran, beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.
