Loggers Fall In Offensive Battle With Lutes, 4-1

TACOMA, Wash. - In a physical battle between a pair of crosstown rivals, the Puget Sound Loggers fell to the Pacific Lutheran Lutes, 4-1, in a Northwest Conference men's soccer game on Sunday afternoon on Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.

The Lutes scored first when Spencer Augustin got control of a ball just inside the top of the box in the 19th minute and shot the ball over the outstretched hands of Logger keeper Greg Saetrum (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) for a 1-0 lead. 

After over 40 minutes played without a goal, the Lutes got on the scoreboard once again when Augustin fed the ball in to Alex Schisel, who then one-timed it to Chad Kearns, who was able to catch Saetrum off balance for the Lutes' second goal of the game in the 59th minute.

In the 64th minute, the Loggers got back within one as sophomore Sean Rice (Boulder, Colo.) scored his second goal of the season after dribbling around PLU keeper Brian Kostol and finishing in the open net.

PLU regained the two goal advantage in the 76th minute when Daniele Zaccagnini beat Saetrum on a breakaway to give the Lutes the 3-1 lead.  The final goal of the game came in the 84th minute as PLU had a two against one in the box, allowing Surafel Wodajo to find Andy Hyres for the four Lute goal as the collected the 4-1 victory.

The Loggers held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks over the course of the contest.  Pacific Lutheran was shown three yellow cards during the match, with Jason Bjorgo, Zaccagnini and Derek MacLean picking up one each.

The Loggers will head east next weekend as they travel to Walla Walla on Saturday to take on Whitman.  Puget Sound will then trek up to Spokane for a Sunday tilt with Whitworth.
