Peterson Heads Loggers Past Bruins, 1-0

TACOMA, Wash. - Senior Cole Peterson (Great Falls, Mont./C.M. Russell) headed in the game winner in the 38th minute as the Puget Sound Loggers defeated the George Fox Bruins, 1-0, in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon on Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.

In the 38th minute, senior Daniel Lee (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) set up a corner kick and put the ball up along the far post.  Peterson used his 6-4 frame to rise above the crowd in front of the goal and put the ball past George Fox keeper Elliott Davis for the 1-0 lead.  The Loggers continued to pressure the Bruins, outshooting GFU 16-6 on the match, but neither team found the net the rest of the way.

Freshman Chris McDonald (Newton, Mass./Noble & Freenough) collected the clean sheet, making two saves over the 90 minute match.  Davis finished with five saves on the afternoon while the Bruin defense also earned credit for a team save in the 50th minute.

Each team also picked up a yellow card as Lee was cautioned in the 37th minute and Geoffrey Wacker of GFU was shown a card in the 44th minute.

The Loggers will conclude the home portion of their schedule on Sunday afternoon when they play host to Pacific, beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Peyton Field in Tacoma.

A defensive wall in the Logger backfield, Cole has been a regular contributor for Puget Sound since arriving in 2006. While he excels athletically, he also enjoys his academics. "Organic chemistry has been my favorite class so far. I enjoyed being one of John Hanson's students. The labs were a lot of work, but were interesting and fun."
