TACOMA, Wash. – Whitman drew first and last to defeat the Puget Sound men's soccer team 2-1 on Saturday. Vincent McCluskey scored the Loggers (6-5, 5-3 NWC) goal just minutes into the second half.
Whitman (5-5-2, 5-3 NWC) struck first early in the first half when Leland Matthaeus scored from about 20 yards out.
In the 50th minute, McCluskey brought the Loggers even. Connor LaFerriere played McCluskey into the box and he buried the shot to make the score 1-1.
However, Whitman came through with the game-winner in the 74th minute when Cooper Schumacher buried a shot to give Whitman the 2-1 lead.
The Missionaries held off the Loggers the rest of the way for the victory, which draws the Loggers and Missionaries even in the Northwest Conference standings.
The Loggers will celebrate Senior Day tomorrow when they host Whitworth at 2:30 p.m. on East Field.
