McDonald, Gittens Garner NWC Weekly Honors

SEATTLE – Seniors Anthony Gittens (football) and Chris McDonald (soccer) were selected as Northwest Conference Student-Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. Gittens earned the honor for football special teams while McDonald was the men's soccer defensive player of the week.

This is the second time this season that McDonald has earned the weekly award from the NWC. He recorded his seventh shutout of the season in a double overtime tie with No. 11 Whitworth. He ranks second all-time at Puget Sound and is three shutouts away from tying the school record.

Gittens joined the football team this fall after earning Second Team All-NWC honors in basketball last year and helping the team to a 20-win season. As part of the Loggers field goal blocking unit, Gittens was able to get a hand on a 42-yard field goal try and a point after attempt last week against Lewis & Clark.

The men's soccer team goes to Pacific Lutheran on Friday but returns home on Sunday for a non-conference match at noon. The football team finishes up a three-game homestand this weekend with Pacific.
