GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Puget Sound men's soccer team took a tough 1-0 loss in its season-opener at Southwestern on Friday. The Loggers (0-1) put three shots on frame but couldn't sneak one past the keeper in the loss.
The first half played to a draw as both were turned away twice with shots on goal. JP Nash had a pair of saves for the Loggers in his first start in goal. Daniel Poole made three saves on the other end of the field to secure the shutout win for the Pirates (1-0). His team outshot the Loggers 10-4 in the first half.
At 64:19 mark, Steven Resnick drove home the only goal of the match for the Pirates. Andres Carreno-Mende earned the assist on the goal.
Carson Swope had three of the Loggers' seven shots to lead the squad on the attacking end. He put two of his three on goal. However, the Pirates earned a 17-7 shot advantage in the match.
The Loggers are back on the pitch on Sunday when they travel to San Antonio, Texas to take on nationally-ranked Trinity.
